An exceptional copy of the iconic 1659 Elzevir edition of Justin's universal history (Justinus cum notis selectissimis variorum). This volume features the highly sought-after, beautifully preserved engraved frontispiece title page depicting a dramatic classical scene with the famous Latin motto "Totus Non Sufficit Orbis" ("The whole world is not enough").
The printed dedication page is addressed to the prominent 17th-century Amsterdam statesman and Dutch East India Company (VOC) director, Simoni van Hoorn.
Solid contemporary full leather binding. The spine features five raised bands with intricate, brilliant gilt tooling and the title “IVSTIN” clearly visible in the second panel. Minor, expected age-related scuffing and fine surface cracking along the spine hinges, but the boards remain securely attached. Perfect for any collector or to read and enjoy.

Condition

Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.

Please look at photos closely as they form part of the item description.
