Handsome pair of late 19th-century French Louis XVI-style oval girandole wall mirrors, offering magnificent scale, symmetry, and architectural presence. Each mirror features a classic oval glass plate enclosed within a classically molded, reeded, and beaded frame. The frames are beautifully surmounted by elaborate, flowing foliate and floral crestings that lend a sense of movement and height. Extending from the bottom aprons are ornate, scrolling branch arms holding twin candle sconces. Historically designed to catch and amplify flickering candlelight, these projecting sconces add a wonderful three-dimensional depth when mounted on a wall.
Dating to the late Victorian era (circa 1880–1890), these mirrors are executed in the refined Louis XVI neoclassical revival style. This aesthetic favored geometric symmetry, laurel swags, and classical detailing, heavily contrasting with the asymmetrical, fluid curves of the earlier Rococo style. Girandole mirrors of this quality were centerpiece features in fine late-19th-century French interiors, typically positioned in formal drawing rooms, dining spaces, or grand entrance halls. 
Condition
Multiple losses to the gesso (please check photos for details) and historical repairs. Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.
