A fantastic set of ten antique bound books. Dated 1797 and 1798, this is a set of two different collections but bound in the same half leather and marble boards. These are the english translation of the french naturalist, George-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon.
There are eigth volumes of 'Buffon's Natural History, A theory of the Earth, A general history of man' out of ten. And two volumes of 'Natural History of birds, fish, insects and reptiles' out of five. The whole collection should be 15 volumes and are all bound the same. The volumes missing are 6, 9 and 11. This is a stunning early set of books with red leather spines and gilt embossed fonts. The marble boards are in good condition. 
There are many black and white illustrations of birds and animals throughout each book. Printed by the 'Proprietor' and sold by H.D Symonds of Paternoster Row, London. One edition is signed to the front with the owners name, Mary Hobhouse. This could be the famous poet and novelist, but we can't confirm.A fabulous early set, perfect as a gift for a collector or to read and enjoy. 
Condition
Bumped corners and spine. Tight binding. Really good condition considering there age! Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.
