A fantastic antique brass telescope. With makers marks for Newton and Co, 3 Fleet Street, Temple Bar, London. Frederick Newton and his cousin William founded a partnership in 1851 making optical equipment as well as globes. Frederick went it alone in 1857 creating Newton and Co to focus on the optical equipment.

This telescope dates from around 1860. We believe the green cover is dyed sharkskin (Shagreen). This fabulous travel telescope is perfect for any collector. A great period piece to stage in a modern interior to add soul and character to a space.

The cover is heavily worn. We are selling as decorative untested item. Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.

Please look at photos closely as they form part of the item description.

62 cm open length, 22.5 cm closed length, 4.5 cm diameter
