A fantastic antique bound book. Titled 'The American Dictionary of the English Language' and written by Noah Webster. Noah Webster began work on this book in 1807. It is dated 1861 and bound in full leather with raised banding to the spine.

Brothers George and Charles Merriam started a publishing business in 1831 in Springfield Massachusetts. They acquired the rights to the Webster's dictionary in 1843. This book is published by the brothers and is an early edition. The cover has a wonderful timeworn patina. There are several pages of wonderful black and white illustrations. The book is large, oversized and heavy! It would make a wonderful statement in a home library or modern interior to add soul and character to a space.

Condition

Bumped corners and spine. Foxing to some pages. Cracking to leather cover. Binding is tight. Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.

Please look at photos closely as they form part of the item description.

Dimensions

23 cm width, 10 cm depth, 27 cm height
