A fantastic antique pair of ceramic pottery plates. Stamped by the maker, Bates, Gildea and Walker. In 1878 James Gildea joined the partnership of William Bates and John Walker. They manufactured earthenware and porcelain tableware in the Dale Hall pottery works, Burslem, Stock-on-Trent.
This trio of plates date from the 1880s, before Bates left the partnership. They have a lovely transfer printed ring of flowers to the centre and stunning birds around the rim. They are stamped with the design name, 'Kioto'. There is very much a Japanese influence to the design. The back stamp kite confirms the year of manufacture is 1880. A fabulous period set, perfect to incorporate in to a modern sustainable home to add soul and character or to use and enjoy.
Condition
Crazing to surface. No chips or cracks. Historical staining to surface of pottery. Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.
