Here for sale is a fantastic and rare brass repousse plaque depicting the Berlin Conference of 1884. This fabulous hand beaten picture has a wonderful patina and detail and very much metal art.

The Berlin conference was a key event in world history with Bismarck's Germany emerging from reunification to assert its authority on the global stage. The Berlin Conference was effectively the European colonial powers agreeing how to carve up the world leading to the "Scramble for Africa".

The plaque is signed A. Arens. Arnold Arens was based in Antwerp, Belgium and was active during the time of the Berlin Conference, so we assume that the work was commissioned soon after the conference itself. The plaque is full of detail with each figure meticulously created and fantastic details showing the conference room.

This is a truly rare piece. Mounted in a modern frame, the perfect additional to any modern home to add soul and character to a space.

Condition

A split to the lower left. Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.

Please look at photos closely as they form part of the item description.

Dimensions
