A stunning pair of framed antique prints. Dating from the 18th century and is the first edition work published in Amsterdam between 1741 and 1755. Each stunning engraving is printed on chain-linked watermarked paper by George Eberhard.
'Herbarium Amboinense was one of the earliest works on East Indian flora. Eberhard's research led to further scientific discovery in the Maluku Islands, Indonesia, and their seas. The work was completed for publication by 1670, but the original illustrations were burned in a fire in 1687. Burmann collected and edited the documents and published the first volume in 1741 and continued publication until 1755' Lorfords website.
We have mounted this rare pair of plates, 'Ton 1' and Ton 2', into original wooden museum exhibition frames. Each frame is mounted on a brass bracket and swings so that each side can be seen. A truly unique and rare pair of engravings which would look amazing in any modern space to give character and soul.
