A fantastic antique watercolour. Signed by the artist Fredrick John Widgery (1861 - 1942). Widgery is the youngest son of renowned artist William Widgery. He studied at the Exeter School of Art and painted mainly moorland and landscrapes in Devon and Cornwall. In 1903, he became mayor of Exeter. This example dates from the turn of the century. We have had a new mount and backing board cut by a a professional framer as the original was tired. Inside in pencil is the location 'Hangingstone Hill, Dartmoor'. To the back of the original backing board is 'The Moors, Near Okehampton'. The painting has a wonderful moody feel with lots of atmosphere. The frame is old and has a wonderful timeworn patina that adds to its charm. A fabulous period piece, perfect to add soul and character to any modern interior.
Condition
Some distress and loses to frame, please do refer to photos. Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.
