An original early 20th Century bentwood chair. With original makers label for Thonet. Michael Thonet was the original inventor or steaming beech wood to creat bentwood furniture. His first chiar no 1 was produced in 1850. The smooth organic, curved lines of bentwood chairs are synonymous with timelessly chic and European cafe bistro style. When this design was first launched in the late 19th Century, it was truly revolutionary and marked an exciting departure from the heavy straight lines of the early Victorian era. This example has stunning Art Nouveau embossed seat. A beautiful and still functional period chair. Perfect to add soul and character to any modern interior.
