A fantastic antique print. With an fabulous brass commenative plaque to the front. This print was given as a gift from the shipmates of SS Granville in memory of the death of two marines. Albert C. Kapel (6643457) and Richard C. Colebank (5601494), were both missing in 1943, and later declared dead in 1944. This is a really interesting piece and we do not know who the gift was intended for.
The print is taken from an original oil painting by Maurice Pellerier 1875-1962). The painting is of St Cado, France. He became a member of the Salon of French Artists in 1930 and recieved a medal in 1933. Examples of his work can be found in the Museums of New York, Paris and Philadephis.
A real slice of history and wonderful reminder of all those servicemen who died during WW2. A perfect gift for any collector or historian. Alternatively, a great period piece to incororpate into a modern interior to add a burst of history and character.
Condition
Some area of oak frame missing to bottom left, please refer to photo. Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.
