A fantastic antique sideboard. There is an original makers label for Woof & Whitaker, Cabinet Maker & Upholsterers, of Sheffield. The company was in operation from 1881 to 1888, and based at Devonshire Street, Sheffield. Made from ebonised wood and with the most exquisite hand painted doors to the front. Dating from the Aesthetic Movement between 1860 and 1900. It was a movement against Instrustrialization and Victorian materialism. With original bevelled mirrors to the upstand and galleried pelmet. With Bulbus finals to the top. The stunning hand painted panels with songbird and foliage are set on a gilt gold background. It has an almost Japanese feel to the design and often referred to as 'Japanesque' during this period. With original velvet lining to cupboards. A fabulous period piece, perfect to incoporate into a modern interior to add a burst of personality and soul.
