An exceptional, original Victorian lithographic medical plate titled "Synovial Membranes of the Knee and Elbow" (Plate XX). This beautiful piece of medical history was originally published in 1885 by the renowned Scottish publishers W. & A.K. Johnston (Edinburgh & London) for their definitive Students' Atlas of Bones and Ligaments.
The print showcases highly intricate, beautifully colored anatomical illustrations detailing the joints, ligaments, and fluid membranes of the human knee and elbow.
This item includes its original 1885 Victorian descriptive letterpress text sheet mounted on the reverse. The text provides fascinating historical context, noting that the illustrations were created directly from medical preparations held in the Museum of Edinburgh University and lent by the historic anatomist Professor Turner.
 
 
The print is beautifully housed in a highly collectible, original late-19th-century Amberg's Patent Cabinet Letter File glazed mahogany frame. Originally manufactured by Cameron, Amberg & Co. to slide inside a large master office filing cabinet, this frame retains its authentic character details: Features its original stamped metal number index tag ("860") on the lower frame edge.Retains its historic brass side spring-latch mechanism used to lock the tray into its original cabinet track.
This combination of an authentic 1885 Victorian lithograph and a genuine late-19th-century Amberg industrial cabinet slide creates an extraordinary statement piece. Perfect for premium eclectic interiors, medical or physiotherapy practices, industrial lofts, or curiosity cabinet collections.
Condition
Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.
