Here for sale is a fantastic early 19th Century Georgian deed box or document box. Made by T Powell and Co. of Oxford Street London, bearing their label "Original Makers to His Majesty". Thomas Powell were registered in Oxford Street in 1815.
At the time this would have been a high quality box with leather covering to the wood and high quality fittings. The lock is of excellent quality (although the key is missing). The top is embossed with a name which is faint but appears to be Thom Crafer Esq.
As can be seen the box is in poor condition with missing leather, damage to the area around the locks and hinge. However, still a beautiful time worn piece with much history and a few stories to tell.
Damage to the wood around lock and hinges, new screws in one hinge, damage to other hinge, missing areas of leather, missing key. Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.
Please look at photos closely as they form part of the item description.
