Here for sale is a fantastic antique tin trunk with a label for Gieve Matthews and Seagrove Ltd 21 George St Hanover Square West and the Principal Naval Ports.

Gieve was a Naval and Army outfitter of Portsmouth since 1863. In 1904, they acquired Matthews and Seagrove, both also Naval outfitters to form Gieve, Matthews and Seagrove Ltd. In 1916 the company was renamed Gieve's Ltd.

So we can fairly confidently assume that this lovely trunk dates from between 1904 up to 1916 and would have been used to carry Naval uniform. It has a japanned metal outside and a painted interior. A fabulous piece full of history perfect for display and use. Comes complete with working lock with original key.

Metal slide catch on one side is missing. Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.

Please look at photos closely as they form part of the item description.
