A fantastic quality antique leather dispatch box. Stamped by the maker in gilt to the leather edge for Parkins and Gotto of Oxford Street, London. Parkins & Gotto was a prominent Victorian-era London firm founded around 1845 by William Parkins and Henry Jenkin Gotto. Originally stationery and printing specialists they expanded into luxury goods, becoming renowned for writing cases, dressing boxes, and various, often imported, fancy items.
This piece dates from circa 1860 and is of superb quality with quality brass fittings and a quality Bramah lock with original working key. The tray contains a blotting pad and the original glass ink well with the Parkins and Gotto mark to the brass top. With original owners initials tooled to the top for 'E.M'. A truly rare piece of super quality. Perfect for any collector or to use and enjoy.
Condition
With a working key. Original baize to base is coming off but does reveal and interesting newspaper sample which was used as pading. Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.
Please look at photos closely as they form part of the item description.
