A magnificent piece of British maritime history. This early 20th-century cabin steamer trunk was handcrafted by the prestigious Pukka Luggage Company, an elite British maker stocked in luxury London department stores like Harrods. What sets this specific trunk apart is its extraordinary, untouched travel provenance visible through its surviving stickers and hardware:
P&O Steam Navigation Company Label: Features a prominent vintage P&O "HOLLAND" voyage label, detailing its passage through the legendary passenger line that connected Britain to the Far East and Egypt.
Summer Palace Hotel, Ramleh (Alexandria, Egypt): A remarkably crisp, circular blue label from the famous luxury Summer Palace Hotel in Ramleh, Alexandria. This was a premier luxury destination for wealthy European and British elites during the interwar period.
British Railways L.M. Region Label: A blue "London Midland Region" railway luggage label, showcasing its continued journey back home on the UK rail network.
Stamped Pukka Hardware: The heavy leather side handles feature brass brackets explicitly stamped with the "PUKKA" maker's mark on both ends.
Signature Branding: The clean linen interior features the iconic indigo-blue ticket pocket boldly embossed in gold with the "PUKKA LUGGAGE" mark.
This item is sold in lovely, honest antique condition with a stunning, time-earned patina.
Condition
The original keys are missing, there are repairs to the straps and one of the tray supports has been replaced. The exterior shows expected wear from global travel, including surface cracking, scuffing, and dehydration to the thick leather handles and corner caps. The paper labels have some typical fraying and losses but retain excellent clarity and vivid color.
