A fantastic antique fine quality mahogany reading or console table. With rise and fall table top on a beautifully turned base with brass metal ring to upstand. Standing on four super quality castors stamped Cope's patent. Two opposing book or sheet music rests which fold flat in to the table. Each book reat has two small pins which are pulled out to rest the book or music sheet on.
The table dates from around 1830 we believe. Inside marked with an owners seal and details. Faint owners name and "of Ingwell Whitehaven, Cumberland". The stamp is for initial AFG. Based on research this is probably Anne Francis Gunson, married to Joseph Gunson the original owner of the Ingwell Estate who completed the main house in 1826. Gunson was a company commander during the Napoleonic wars. The table could also have been used by their daughter also Anne Francis.
A rare table full of history! A perfect addition to any modern home as a useful piece and to use and enjoy.
