A fantastic antique reading lectern. Stamped by the maker, William Tonks and Sons, to the cast iron base. Tonks founded his firm in 1789 in Birmingham and moved to its large factory in Mosely Street in 1861. They won gold medals at the 1851 and 1862 Exhibitions in London and in 1855 at Paris. The top is made by English oak, which has a wonderful grain and warm tone. The lectern is fully adjustable in height and angle of the top. There is a book ledge to the top. The cast iron base has a black japanned lacquered finish. This is a salvaged piece and was used in the United Reform Church in Dunmow, Essex. A fabulous period piece, perfec to use and enjoy.

Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.
