An exceptional, highly collectible pair of authentic 1930s solid wood downhill alpine skis paired with matching bamboo poles. This set perfectly captures the golden age of European winter sports and makes a stunning statement piece for ski chalets, rustic bars, winter shop window displays, or premium lodge-style interiors.
Manufacturer: Bussoz-Sports (Features the original metal maker's badge affixed to the center face, cleanly stamped: "BUSSOZ - SPORTS, 78, Champs Elysees, PARIS"). Rare early segmented metal edges individually screwed into the running bases (a downhill innovation pioneered in the late 1920s and 1930s). Original adjustable metal Kandahar-style cable bindings on one of the skis complete with weathered leather toe straps and front-throw tension levers.
The poles with authentic segmented bamboo shafts with leather cord wraps. Original dual-ring cane/bamboo baskets. Features the original metal branding button on the leather collar stamped "SPORT HUMMEL" (The famous Munich, German alpine sporting equipment manufacturer founded in 1921).
Beautiful, un-restored antique condition with a rich, genuine alpine patina. The wood bases show authentic flaking varnish, historical pine tar residue, and natural grain wear from genuine use. The leather is dry and weathered as expected for a set nearly a century old, beautifully preserving its historical integrity. There are no major structural splits to the wood cores. Great as a business or home prop. Adding soul and character to any modern space.
Condition
Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.
Please look at photos closely as they form part of the item description.
