A fantastic signed oil on canvas print of a boat on the high seas. Signed by the art artist E.W. Cooke. Cooke was born in Pentonville, London, the son of well-known line engraver George Cooke. Edward William Cooke began painting in oils in 1833, took formal lessons from James Stark in 1834 and first exhibited at the Royal Academy and British Institution in 1835, by which time his style was essentially formed. He went on to travel and paint with great industry at home and abroad, indulging his love of the 17th-century Dutch marine artists with a visit to the Netherlands in 1837. In 1858, he was elected into the National Academy of Design as an Honorary Academician.

This fabulous example is an Oleograph. This is a textured print to look like an oil on canvas, it is covered with a lacquer to give it a brown tone. It has a wonderful patina and look. The print is in an old gilt gold gesso frame and the canvas is stamped by the retailer name Mingus & Bowers Bridge, Tower Road, London. It is the perfect addition to any home to add interest and personality to an interior.

The gesso frame has cracking and the bottom right corner looks to have heat damage. Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.

Please look at photos closely as they form part of the item description.
