A fantastic and rare heavy Victorian Mahogany door. With stunning heavy art nouveau brass door handles and beautiful carved decoration. Dating we believe from around 1880, the door was possibly originally in a bank that has been converted later to a Burtons Drapers Store; the advertising for "Montague Burton The Tailor of Taste" being displayed within the door in a sheet behind the glass.
From the 1920's Burtons was the predominant high street tailor with impressive shops in many cities and towns. We presume that the advertising was added to the door around this time.
The door has stunning carved wood decoration in front of the lower pane of glass
This is a wonderful antique door that could be left with the Burton advertising as a point of interest or could be reverted back to a bank door with new glass or a mirror for a fantastic decorative door.
Condition
There is a crack in the glass of the door that does not run right across. It also appears that there is missing decoration to the top of the door. The door has signs of the handles having been moved from the opposite side of the door. Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.
Please look at photos closely as they form part of the item description.
